Our lab was the first of its kind in Scotland and we hope to expand across the UK. By engaging in hands-on experiments, observing phenomena and asking questions, we help children develop important skills such as data analysis and observation, as well as fostering their enthusiasm for science.

 

The LAB22 is a bespoke science lab for children. We inspire young minds to take an interest in science and enable curiosity to flourish.

Free Thought

We believe that free thought encourages children to think independently, question assumptions and explore different perspectives. By encouraging children to express their thoughts and opinions freely, they develop confidence in their ideas and gain a sense of self-worth.

Inclusivity is of paramount importance within The LAB22 because it ensures that all children—regardless of their background or abilities —feel valued, respected and supported in the learning environment.

curriculum

Two age-specific curriculums to engage and delight the next generation

  • Forces

    Children will learn how forces can change the shape or motion of an object. They will also investigate the impact of forces in contact with objects, even over a set distance. This will help children better understand the effects of friction on motion. The study of speed and acceleration of an object leads to an understanding of the relationship between motion and forces acting on it.

  • Electricity

    Children will grasp the means of transferring energy by understanding circuits and how electricity flows through them. Children will have the opportunity to build hands-on circuits to create functioning equipment.

  • Sound

    Children will explore the nature of sound: how waves travel through the air using musical instruments and how sound is transferred through different media to be heard by humans (they’ll use paper cup phones to do so). As in the previous module, children will have hands-on experience building circuits to allow sound to travel electronically. They will model the inside of an ear to understand how humans receive sound waves.

  • Materials

    Children will understand various properties of materials. They will establish a connection between structure and properties by analysing how material properties apply to necessary objectives. By the end of the module, they will be able to relate physical and chemical properties to atomic structure.

    Children will explore what energy is: they will understand the sources of energy, and how energy is used and generated. Children will have a thorough insight into how the energy of objects at rest or in motion varies by building real-life solutions to everyday problems.
